Riddles!

Was bored, so I found some riddles for everyone to guess.
The answers should be in white under the question, I hope.

1. What word contains all the twenty-six letters?
Alphabet

2. How do you make "one" disappear?
Add a "g" to make it "gone, or add a "n" to make it "none".

3. What word can be written forward, backward or upside down, and can still be read from left to right?
DID (from hks_sing)

4. Two girls have the same parents and were born atthe same hour of the same day of the same month, but they are not twins. How can this be possible?
They were not born in the same year.

5. The marathon man timed himself and found outthat if he wore a bright white outfit he ran 20 miles in 80 minutes,but when he wore a dark outfit, he ran 20 miles in one hour and twentyminutes. What does this mean for his next race?
Absolutely nothing, as 80 minutes equals an hour and twenty minutes.

1) Alphabet
3) if the word can be inverted in any direction, the alphabet that it contains must be all invertible. First of all, we narrow out those alphabet which can be upside down inverted. Consequently, we have
B, C, D, E, H, I, K, O, X
And we can use those letters to form words, therefore...
1)BED
2)BEE
3)BOX
4)BOOK
5)CODE
6)COOK
7)DID -> DID          ok!

I can think of an alternative answer for question 2....

change "one" to ten thousand.........

because in Chinese, we say "萬中無一"

see if you can understand it~

yukitsu 2008-1-30 00:10

XD, I get the ten thousand one.
However, I got these from a English site.
So the author of these riddles probably never thought of that.
I just randomly typed in riddles on google and found these.
There are a lot more, I just picked out a few that seems easy and some that has to do with English.

Yeah, my friend showed me that NOON does work. DID definitely works, good job hks_sing~

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.....
i think "NOON" is not the suitable answer.
Think about it, if you flip the letter "N" upside down, it will end up become something like " |/| " which is not a proper alphabet.
If you use brute force to print out all the possible combination of words, for sure you will find out more......i think...
for instance,
1)BED -> DEB
2)DID -> DID
3)EDO -> ODE
4)EH -> HE

anyway, thank you for sharing......

yukitsu 2008-1-30 04:12

Yeah, i changed it to DID, or something.
The site I got it from was actually just www.riddles.com
If you want to look at more, just go there.
Some of them doesn't make a lot of sense, and some of them are pretty good.

3 - "I" (as in, me) <- how about that?

4. they are born in different years

5. :010: he will ran naked in the next race(as an experiment?)?? or maybe he will time himself in seconds instead?? 4800 seconds???
